Asha’s grandmother cooked everything from scratch by necessity, using her abundant home garden, and home-raised livestock as inspiration for meals that had to feed eleven children. My grandmother—who was born in the same time period as Asha’s—was more urban, and cooked as a duty to her family. She made as many meals out of convenience foods as she could, embracing boxed mashed potatoes, canned peas and gravy mixes to fill out her meals. Asha’s mother wasn’t fond of cooking, my mother was a master home chef.
We’ve lived in a world of convenience so long, that I applaud you if you found your way here! If you want to learn to cook from whole foods, you will reap the benefits almost immediately!
Why Should I Cook It From Scratch?
- It’s healthier —much of what is in our food supply today isn’t food!
- It’s cheaper.
- It’s greener—there’s far less packaging on whole foods.
- It’s satisfying to create meals for yourself, your family or your friends!
- It’s fun!
